What is Billet Casting?
What is billet casting? At present, in addition to the production of special steel and large-scale steel castings, a small amount of cast steel ingots are required for forging processing, and the mass production of ordinary steel at home and abroad has basically abandoned the old process of casting steel ingots – billeting – rolling, and most of them use The method of casting molten steel into billets and then rolling them is called “continuous casting“.
If you do not wait for the steel billet to cool down, do not land on the way, and directly send it to the rolling mill, you can make the required steel products “in one fire”. If the billet is cooled halfway and stored on the ground, the billet can become a commodity sold in the market.
A billet is a product obtained by casting molten steel made in a steelmaking furnace. Steel billets can be mainly divided into two types from the manufacturing process: die-casting billets and continuous-casting billets. The die-casting process has been basically eliminated.
There are two main types in terms of appearance:
Slab: The ratio of section width and height is large, and it is mainly used for rolling plates.
Billet: The width and height of the section are equal, or the difference is not large, and it is mainly used for rolling section steel and wire rod.
Billets are produced by three process methods:
First, through the continuous casting equipment of the steelmaking system, the molten steel is directly cast into the billet;
The second is the semi-finished steel products processed by the rolling equipment of the steel rolling system for the steel ingots or continuous casting billets produced by the steelmaking system;
The third is the semi-finished product processed by the forging equipment for the ingot produced by the steelmaking system.
Continuous cast steel billets and rectangular billets are mainly represented by ordinary carbon steel, low-carbon, and low-silicon cold-rolled materials, high-quality carbon structural steel, low-alloy high-strength steel, and special steel grades.
The billet is original steel, and after processing, it can be used as mechanical parts, forgings, processing various sheets of steel, section steel Q345B channel steel, and wire is the role of the billet.
Steel billets refer to semi-finished products used in the production of steel, which generally cannot be directly used by society. There are strict classification standards for billets and steel products, which cannot be determined by whether they are the final products of the enterprise but must be implemented according to the unified standards of the whole society.
Usually, billets and steels are relatively easy to distinguish, but for some billets, which have the same specifications and the same use as steel (such as rolled tube billets), it can be determined by whether they are used in other industries and whether they have undergone the steel processing process. Whether it has been processed by the finished rolling mill to distinguish.
